This exhibition of fifty or so paintings was nearly cancelled by and was completely reshaped in nature by the infamous Lockdown this spring.
After I was kindly offered a solo exhibition at Lakes Art Grasmere in 2019 I had envisioned a broad sweep of epic large panoramas with a few small pictures sprinkled in for good measure. However the pressures of looking after a small child during lockdown and very limited time for painting curtailed my ambitions after the first few large pieces were completed.
Instead I turned inwards to the world of miniatures, which could be handled more easily in the limited (often very early morning) time I had available for painting. In a sense I was also returning to my roots as a painter, as many my first pictures were on this scale for several years.
I hope visitors will enjoy this little exhibition, it covers many years of pleasant wandering on the fells and several of the spring images (such as Rydal and Loughrigg and little Loughrigg paintings) are from little walks this year with my three year old daughter in tow, or as often as not; in arms.
